The Japanese developer of the Final Fantasy series, Square Enix, has established a new partnership with the Elixir Games, which already has an integration capability for the Epic Games Store.
Elixir is a PC gaming platform that aims to further advance the adaptation of blockchain games. The gaming platform offers both Web2 and Web3 games.
Just recently, the feature was integrated, which integrates Epic Games’ game library into their platform. Through the new partnership between Square Enix and Elixir, the two separate worlds of Web2 and Web3 are now expected to merge more closely.
According to the Director of Business Development, Hidaki Uehera, this is Square Enix’s next step to join the promising world of decentralized web gaming.
Elixir CEO Carlos Roldan expressed similar optimism. In his opinion, this would now help Web3 games achieve mass adoption. In addition, he also said that the team is especially excited to make the new technology work. They also expect that in the future Web2 and Web3 games will be played without distinction.
This year, several renowned game developers have already entered the field of blockchain games. As a result, Elixir has already anticipated further progress for the current year. For this reason, they paid special attention to scalability.
Square Enix’s previous steps in blockchain gaming
To begin with, Square Enix released the first collectibles for Final Fantasy on Enjin in 2022. Then in September, the game developer became a node validator for the gaming blockchain Oasys. In addition, it has also invested in the game studio Gumi Games, which develops P2E mobile games. At the end of 2022, Square Enix announced several blockchain games, including Symbiogenesis, which is scheduled for release in 2023.
